The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team was downed by Georgetown (2-1-1) in the opening game of the Davidson/adidas Classic at Davidson, N.C. today (Sept. 11), 3-0.
Despite the Chanticleers producing more shots on goal, 5-3, the Hoyas goaltender Matthew Brutto would prevent them from connecting to the back of the net the entire night. The Chanticleers were, however, outshot by the Hoyas 13-8. Freshman Luis Faz would record a career-high seven shots with a game-high three on goal. Senior Djamel Bekka also created scoring opportunities with two shots, both on goal for the Chanticleers.
The Hoyas put the pressure on the Chanticleers from the get-go as they produce five shots within the first 19 minutes. The Hoyas offense would hit the back of the net less than 10 minutes later, as Ian Christianson would score from a set-up cross play from Seth C'deBaca and Chandler Diggs over the head of freshman goaltender Bradley Bugg.
The second half would not bring any relief to the Chanticleers as the Hoyas would continue their attack with just three minutes into the second half when Diggs shot to the upper right corner of the net, as he registered his third point on the day. The Hoyas would seal the game as C'deBaca would score at 77:37.
The Chants are now 1-2-1 on the season. They will quickly return to action to take on tournament host Davidson on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 3:15 p.m.
