Coastal Carolina Baseball Hosts Pro Day, Starts World Series

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina baseball team will host its annual Pro Day this Friday, Oct. 15, starting at 1 pm at Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field, followed by game one of the team's annual intrasquad Chanticleer World Series.
The three-game set will start at 2:30 pm Friday, showcasing all the draft-eligible pitchers, with subsequent games on Saturday (10:30 am) and Sunday (1:30 pm). All of the weekend's activities - Pro Day and the World Series - are free and open to the public.
On Friday, the Chanticleer position players will start testing for the approximately 30 professional baseball scouts, with at least one representative from each Major League Baseball team scheduled to attend. The position player workout will consist of running the 60-yard dash, as well as an extended infield/outfield session and batting practice. At 2:30 pm, first pitch of the Fall World Series is set to be thrown with All-American Anthony Meo leading the group of draft-eligible pitchers set to make an appearance on Friday.

The Chanticleers will be divided for the three-game series.
On the Black Team will be Rich Witten, Tommy La Stella, Zach Lopes, Josh Conway, Jacob May, Hayes Orton, Tyler Herb, Chris King, Jackson Geary, Tucker Frawley, Aaron Burke, Nick Keener, Anthony Meo, Jim Coughlin, Jordan Coons and Patrick Marande.
The Grey Team includes Keith Hardwick, K.J. McAllister, Tripp Martin, Taylor Motter, Ryan Siegel, Daniel Bowman, T.J. Young, John Fidanza, Doug Fleming, Stefan Del Pino, Selby Brummett, Matt Laney, Matt Rein, Ryan Connolly, Jim Birmingham, Woody Nesbut and David Mullins. Scott Woodward will sit out after having surgery in the off season.
"Other than opening day or playing in a regional, Pro Day may be the day baseball players most look forward to," said head coach Gary Gilmore. "A guy who maybe has not made a name for himself yet can have a big day on Friday, be seen by a lot of scouts that day and know, with the other players we have, scouts will have numerous opportunities to continue tracking his progress. We have been very fortunate to have a lot of players drafted from our program and this day is always the first step. I always look forward to Pro Day because I know our players will be very focused and give their very best effort. I also know our players usually a pumped for this day and usually perform at a high level because of that.
I am also excited about seeing our guys play in our annual World Series. We have had four great weeks of practice and am anxious to see how our new players fit in and play with something on the line. All in all, this weekend is a great event for our team and community to see what we will have to offer in 2011."
