LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team dropped its Big South Conference opener with a 1-0 setback at Liberty Saturday afternoon from Osborne Stadium.
Liberty (5-2-1, 1-1-0) scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half when Timothy Bullock scored his second goal of the season. Bullock settled a Coastal clear in the 29th minute and dribbled down the field and put a shot from the corner of the Chanticleer box past keeper Scott Angevine.
Coastal Carolina sophomore midfielder Luis Faz had a scoring opportunity with a shot on goal in the 34th minute, but Liberty keeper Paul Gilbert made a save on the play.
Joe Anderson put a shot on goal in the second half in the 57th minute, but Gilbert again managed to make a save and keep the Chanticleers from netting the equalizer.
Liberty finished the game with a 14-10 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Angevine led the way with six saves, which included several diving saves late in the game to keep the Chants within one goal.
Coastal Carolina returns to action Monday at 4 p.m. when the Chanticleers head to Lexington, Va., to take on VMI. The Chants are 11-0 all-time against VMI.
