Coastal Win Streak Snapped At NC State

Oct. 20, 2010

Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team saw its four-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night as the Chanticleers fell 3-1 to NC State from Dail Soccer Field.

It was the first loss for the Chanticleers since falling 1-0 to Liberty Oct. 2 in the conference opening game.

NC State (6-6-2) scored the first goal of the game midway through the when half when Nader Jaibat tallied his second goal of the season in the 25th minute. Jaibat gave the Wolfpack the lead with a shot from the right side of the Chanticleer box following consecutive passes from Chandler Knox and Tyler Lassiter.

The Wolfpack added a second goal just before halftime when Chris Zuerner picked up his fifth goal of the season. Zuerner scored in the 43rd minute from straight away after gaining possession of the ball following an NC State throw in on the Coastal side of the field.

Coastal Carolina (8-5-1) cut the NC State deficit in half with just over 10 minutes remaining when sophomore forward Sean McCormick recorded his first goal of the season. The Chanticleers scored on a set piece as Luis Faz sent a free kick into the Wolfpack box where McCormick headed it off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

NC State added an insurance goal in the 86th minute for its third goal of the contest. Lassiter turned in his sixth goal of the season and third point of the match with an unassisted goal. Lassiter won the ball at midfield and fought off the Coastal defenders and dribbled in for a shot past Coastal keeper Scott Angevine.

"I thought we had some long periods of good possession in the first half, but we put ourselves in a hole by giving up the two goals," Coastal Carolina head coach Shaun Docking said. "We pulled back within a goal late in the second half and thought we would be able to tie the score, but that third goal just killed us. Give credit to NC State. They play a very tough schedule and they are well-coached and it was a good result for them tonight."

Coastal held a 10-7 advantage and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Chanticleer freshman Pedro Ribeiro led the way for Coastal with three shots.

Angevine stopped two Wolfpack shots and allowed more than two goals for just the first time this season. In fact, he had went the previous six games allowing one or fewer goals.

Coastal Carolina returns to the pitch Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Chanticleers return to conference play and welcome Winthrop to the Coastal Carolina Soccer Field.
