BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team put the finishing touches on its preseason competition with a 2-0 blanking of Campbell Friday night in an exhibition game from the Eakes Athletic Complex.
Sophomore Zach Boyer put the Chants up 1-0 in the 32nd minute to give Coastal its first goal of the preseason. Freshman Dent Wise picked up the assists after serving the ball into the Campbell box where Boyer volleyed a strike into the back of the net.
Coastal took a 2-0 lead following a second half goal from Rodrigo Vianna in the 61st minute. Chanticleer midfielder Pedro Ribeiro fired a shot on goal that was saved back into the field of play by Camel goalkeeper Ryan Amons. Vianna quickly located the loose ball and sent a shot into the Campbell goal.
"I am very pleased with the way we played tonight against a very good Campbell team," Coastal head coach Shaun Docking said. "I was also very pleased that we were able to finish our scoring chances, which is something we were not able to do last weekend against Charlotte."
The Chanticleers held a 13-8 edge in overall shots and limited the Camels to just two shots on goal.
Coastal keeper Scott Angevine recorded the win and tallied his second shutout of the preseason. Angevine also held No. 25 Charlotte scoreless Aug. 22 in the first exhibition game of the year in helping the Chants to a 0-0 draw with the 49ers.
"I think the guys are really beginning to work well together even though we are still in the early stages of the season," Docking said. "We're starting to play how we want to play this year, and we are taking a lot of promising steps towards next weekend for the first game of the season."
The Chanticleers return to action Sept. 4 when Coastal travels to Richmond, Va., to take on Old Dominion in the VCU/Nike Classic in the opening game of the regular season.
