Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team fell to the Winthrop Eagles by a final of 64-48 on Saturday afternoon at Kimbel Arena.

Coastal Carolina (8-14, 2-8 Big South) was plagued by turnovers and scoring draughts throughout the contest as the Chanticleer lost for the first time in three games.

The Chants' Sydnei Moss paced all scorers with 17 points. She also led all rebounders with 12 boards as she picked up her sixth double-double of the season.

Winthrop (11-11, 4-5 Big South) finished with three scorers in double-figures as Ashley Cox led the way with 16 points. Dequesha McClannahan and TaQuoia Hammick registered 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Winthrop finished the game with a 35-30 advantage on the boards and a resounding 40-14 edge in points in the paint.

Through the first four minutes of the second half Coastal was able to cut two points off the Winthrop lead as Jessica Noll, Moss, and Katie White combined for six points to the Eagles four. Noll's three during the stretch was her first of the game and 16th of the season. Kayla Cook would capitalize on an old-fashioned three point play with 9:36 remaining after being fouled hard by Winthrop's Mary Hathaway as she drove down the lane. The points gave Cook five during an 8-4 run by the home team that cut the Eagles advantage down to a basket at 46-44.

Winthrop would respond to the Chanticleers threat by turning three Coastal turnovers to six points and build its lead out to a 12 points (60-48) with just less than four minutes remaining.

Winthrop secured the win with an 11-0 run, including seven made free throws, down the stretch to account for the 64-48 final score.

Coastal open the first half on with an early 9-5 run, but cooled down from the field after the first timeout. As the Chants struggled from the floor, Winthrop used an 11-0 run to take its first lead and put Coastal behind 18-9. Coastal would cut the Winthrop lead down to three (24-21) over the next 3:30 as Moss lead the way with six consecutive points. The Eagles closed out the half on a 5-2 run to take the 29-23 advantage into the half.

Coastal Carolina will close out its current three game homestand as Radford comes to Kimbel Arena on Monday, Feb. 14. The Highlanders bested the Chanticleers 66-55 in the teams first meeting this season on Jan. 29 in Radford, Va.

Winthrop will return to action on Feb. 14 at Liberty.
