CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team won its fifth straight match following a 6-1 win over Wofford Sunday afternoon from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Chanticleers swept all three doubles matches and earned the first point of the match. Senior Alex Funkhouser and junior Danny Heidecker posted an 8-3 victory at No. 2 over Alan Donald and Michael Schecter before seniors Matt Gordon and Peter Billingham clinched the point with an 8-6 win over Stuart Robertson and Tinus Van Wyk and No. 1.
Senior Dorian Sovic and sophomore Yusuke Kusuda also defeated Jack Seffert and Drew Superstein at No. 3.
Freshman Leo Christofides put the Chants ahead 2-0 after he downed Jack Seffert 6-1, 6-4 in singles at No. 6. Heidecker upped the Coastal lead to 3-0 following his 6-2, 6-3 win over Van Wyk at No. 1, while Kusuda clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Robertson at No. 3.
Gordon won 7-5, 6-3 over Schecter at No. 2, and Sovic posted a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 victory over Superstein.
"Today's win really concludes the first part of our season as we move into conference play next week," Coastal Carolina head coach Chris Powers said. As a whole, the team is really coming together, but I am not satisfied and I know the guys want to continue improving as we move forward."
Coastal Carolina returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Chants host Gardner-Webb from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
