CONWAY - Appalachian state scored the lone goal of the night in the 83rd minute topping Coastal Carolina, 1-0 Friday night in the second game of the CCU Tournament.
After 82 scoreless minutes with neither team taking control of the game, Mark Bridges of ASU tossed a throw in from the left sideline into the box where Harrison Delbridge connected on a loose ball giving him the game winner in the 83rd minute.
A defensive battle in the first half yielded only a combined six shots, three of which came in the final minutes. Chants keeper Scott Angevine made a pair of stellar diving saves while posting four saves on the night. Mountaineers goalie Danny Free was credited with two saves on the night.
Coastal defender, Cyprian Hedrick made two sliding defense plays that prevented Appalachian from getting off a shot in the 17th and 39th minute.
Prior to the lone goal, Coastal forward Robby Joe Daniels attempted a shot that sailed high in the 81st minute.
Coastal recorded the first shot of the night in the ninth minute by Ashton Bennett who was credited with three of the 10 shots by the Chants. ASU attempted eight shots, five of which were on goal.
Nelson Milsaint and Sekani Sinclair were booked for the only two yellow cards of the game.
Coastal Carolina (4-2) returns to action Sunday when they face No. 21 Ohio State at 2:30 while Appalachian State will square off with Hartwick College at Noon on Sunday.
Ohio State beat Hartwick 3-0 in game one of the Coastal Carolina Tournament.
