Final Stats
CONWAY - Playing in their first Big South Conference home match of the season, the Coastal Carolina volleyball team fell to Campbell University 3-1 on Friday in Kimbel Arena. The Chanticleers drop to 6-11 on the season and to 0-3 in the conference.
The Fighting Camels took a 6-2 lead in the second set, but Coastal Carolina fought back and tied the game at six apiece on an attack error by Campbell. Coastal took their first lead of the match at 8-7 on a service ace by junior Jamie DiMaggio. The Chanticleers eventually built a three point lead and Campbell would have to take a timeout. Campbell tied the match at 15-15 and took a three point lead themselves. Coastal pulled within two points of the Fighting Camels on a couple of occasions, but were unable to get any closer as Campbell took the first set 25-19.
During the second set of play the match remained close up until the end with Coastal able to hold the slight advantage. The Chanticleers were able to pull away at the very end with Campbell recording a couple of errors and freshman Lian Bernett and sophomore Kindra Bailey posting kills to give Coastal the 25-21 win.
Prior to the start of the third set the match was delayed 20 minutes due to power going out in the gym because of severe weather.
Campbell opened the third set strong, as they were able to go ahead 10-2. Coastal was able to pull within five points on a kill by sophomore Sam Skryd who put the score at 19-14. The Chanticleers were unable to get any closer, as the Fighting Camels won the third set 25-19.
The fourth set was a close one, as the two teams battled it out until the end with Campbell making a late run to take the set 25-19. During the fourth set there were 13 ties and five lead changes.
Bernett led the Chanticleers in kills with 12, while Skryd finished with two service aces and 36 assists. Sophomore Lindsay Gill tallied 14 digs and Bailey recorded three total blocks.
Annie Kobeski and Jordan Reaves each had 15 kills for Campbell, while Reaves also posted 14 digs on the evening. Kelsey Marek posted five blocks in the match and Kelsey Campbell finished with two service aces. Heather Wilson led the team in assists with 43.
Coastal Carolina will return to action with their third straight home match on Saturday, October 1 against conference opponent High Point University in Kimbel Arena at 2:00 p.m.
