"With the young group that we have - seven freshmen and five sophomores - we feel that it will benefit our program greatly by playing most of our out of conference schedule at home in front of our fans. So that's how we tailored our schedule.
"I believe the competition we play before the start of the Big South season will both help us build confidence as our team develops, while also presenting strong challenges in our road contests at Western Carolina and North Florida. Hopefully by the start of conference play we will have gelled as a team and be playing sound basketball"
For the third consecutive season the Chanticleers will open the season at home against Southern Virginia. Tip-off for the Nov. 11 contest is set for 5 p.m. and will be the first game of a doubleheader with the men's program.
The Chants will then play two more home contests against College of Charleston (Nov. 14) and St. Andrews (Nov. 19) before playing its only two games away from the Grand Strand in 2011. First up will be a trip to Cullowhee, N.C. on Nov. 22 to take on Western Carolina followed six days later by a matchup in Jacksonville against North Florida (Nov. 28).
Coastal returns home for tilts against Coker (Nov. 30) and Converse (Dec. 11) before playing South Carolina State in the Crescent Bank Carolinas Challenge at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Dec. 18. Similar to 2010-11, Coastal will then close out its non-conference schedule at home with USC Upstate on Dec. 29.
The Big South portion of the Chants schedule opens on the final day of 2011 as rival Winthrop makes its annual trip to Conway. The ladies of Coastal will then host Presbyterian on Jan. 2 before taking to the road for contests at UNC Asheville (Jan.7) and Gardner-Webb (Jan. 9).
A quick two game homestand awaits the Chanticleers starting Jan. 14 with Liberty and Jan. 16 against Radford before going back on the road for the team's longest road stretch of the season. After playing at High Point on Jan. 21, the Chants will make the trip to Buies Creek, N.C. to play new conference member Campbell. The road swing will be wrapped up on Jan. 28 at Charleston Southern.
The Chants then start their second tour through the Big South schedule starting with home matchups with Gardner-Webb (Feb. 4) and UNC Asheville (Feb. 6) followed by road games against the conference's Virginia schools, Radford (Feb. 11) and Liberty (Feb. 13).
Coastal's final homestand in Kimbel Arena kicks off on Feb. 18 as the Campbell Camels come to Conway. The Chants will then host High Point on Feb. 20 before playing the programs final game in historic Kimbel Arena against the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern on Feb. 25.
For the second straight year the Chanticleer will conclude its regular season of play on the road. A trip to Presbyterian (March 2) precedes the regular season finale at Winthrop on March 5.
The Big South Tournament, hosted by High Point at the Millis Center, kicks off on March 9 with quarterfinal matchups and concludes on March 11 with the championship game.
