CCU Men's Golf 2014-15 Stats and Results/Record Book
CAMDEN - Ben Wheeler carded a 2-under par 68 and Coastal Carolina improved one spot, finishing in a tie for sixth with a 54-hole total of 877, at the Camden Collegiate Invitational, played at the par 70, 6,455-yard Camden Country Club.
Host South Carolina won the 15-team event, shooting a 275 Sunday and a 54-hole total of 7-over par 647. The Gamecocks edged 36-hole leader Wofford by one stroke. The Terriers shot 283 Sunday to finish at 848. Furman (865) placed third, followed by Charleston Southern (867) and Radford (872). Presbyterian tied Coastal. Both the Chanticleers and Blue Hose shot 297 on Sunday, leaping USC Aiken who carded a 303 in the final round.
Wheeler moved up nine places to finish tied for seventh thanks to his 68 Sunday. The senior began his day with nine straight pars before suffering a bogey on the par 4, 10th hole. However, he responded with birdies on holes 11 and 13. Wheeler dropped back to even par with a bogey on the 15th, but he rallied with birdies on holes 17 and 18 to card his 2-under 68. Wheeler finished the event 1-over par 211 (70-73-68).
Andrew Dorn tied for 13th with a three-round score of 215 (72-69-74). Dorn, like Wheeler, was even at the turn, but did so with three birdies against a bogey and a double bogey. He finished with four bogeys on the inward nine to record his final round 74.
Rounding out the Coastal contingent were Ryan Carpenter (56th-t, 72-72-82=226), Olle Widegren (64th-t, 75-78-77=230) and Josh Pisarri (70th-t, 72-75-78=225).
Coastal Carolina will have two weeks off before closing the fall portion of its schedule, playing the Wendy's Kiawah Classic at Turtle Point Golf Club Nov. 2-4.
