Chanticleers Host SC State Tuesday

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's basketball returns to the friendly confines of The HTC Center Tuesday evening as hosts to in-state foe South Carolina State. The Chanticleers and Bulldogs are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will also feature the Great Baby Race IV. For the fourth-straight season the Chants will determine the fastest baby along the Grand Strand with a halftime race.

Coastal Carolina Game Notes
Coastal Vs. South Carolina State
• The Chanticleers are 8-6 all-time vs. the Bulldogs.
• The Bulldogs have won three straight against the Chants, including a pair of meetings last season.
• Prior to last season, Coastal had not faced SC State since 2006. The Bulldogs won the 2006 contest 81-80 in overtime, ending CCU's four-game win streak at SC State.
Last Time Out
• Coastal Carolina fell 67-78 at Chattanooga on Thanksgiving Day in the title game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland tournament.
• Shivaughn Wiggins led Coastal with a Chanticleer career-high 20 points.
• Warren Gillis and Josh Cameron joined Wiggins in double-figures with 13 points each.
• Coastal outscored the Mocs 36-26 in the paint, but Chattanooga turned 16 Coastal turnovers into 22 points.
• Coastal shot a season-high 75.0 percent (15-of-20) at the free-throw line.

Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland Bracket Recap
• Coastal Carolina spent the Thanksgiving holiday competing in the Mainland Bracket of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, hosted by Chattanooga. The Chanticleers defeated Louisiana-Monroe in their opening game by a 61-48 score. The Chants ultimately fell 67-78 to the host Mocs in the title game on Thanksgiving Day.
• Shivaughn Wiggins lead Coastal's offensive efforts at the event, averaging15.5 points. Josh Cameron was close behind Wiggins, tallying 15.0 points per game. Badou Diagne was CCU's leading rebounder, averaging 6.0 per contest.
Scoring Points And Playing Strong Defense
• Through six games this season the Chanticleers are averaging 72.7 points and allowing just 55.0 points per game for a +17.7 scoring margin. CCU's 72.7 points per game ranks fourth in the Big South, while the 55.0 points against and 17.7 point scoring margin are both tops among conference schools.
• Offensively the Chanticleers rank third in the Big South with a .432 field goal percentage and fifth with a .321 3-point field goal percentage. Individually, Josh Cameron (14.7 ppg), Warren Gillis (12.7 ppg) and Shivaughn Wiggins (10.8 ppg) rank in the top 30 of the league's individual scoring list.
• Defensively, Coastal also ranks atop the league in field goal percentage defense (.360), 3-point field goal percentage defense (.254) and defensive rebounds (30.5 per game).
Gillis 27 Away From 1,000
• Warren Gillis is just 27 points shy of becoming just the 19th member of Coastal Carolina's 1,000 point club.
• Gillis has scored 973 points in his 97 career games for a 10.03 points per game average.
• At his current pace (12.7 ppg), Gillis will eclipse the 1,000 career points plateau on Dec. 11 at home against Warren Wilson.
• Gillis has played with two of Coastal's 18 all-time 1,000-point scorers. The senior shared the court with both Anthony Raffa (1,470 points) and Kierre Greenwood (1,119 points) during both the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.
• Gillis will need to score 349 more points this season to reach the CCU all-time top-10 career scoring list.
Leading (Sixth) Man
• Senior guard Josh Cameron has fully adapted to the sixth man role this season and currently leads the Chanticleers with 14.7 points per game. Cameron, a natural shooting guard, started the final 26 of last season at point guard; however, with the arrival of true point guard Shivaughn Wiggins, Cameron relinquished his point guard duties.
• This season Cameron has been the first Chant off the bench in five of the six games and has led Coastal in scoring three times.
• Cameron has spent time this season playing both the point and shooting guard positions and averages 20.2 minutes per game.
