CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina guard Josh Cameron and High Point forward John Brown have been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week for games played Dec. 1-7, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
Cameron's weekly honor is the first for a Chanticleer since Anthony Raffa garnered the award on Nov. 12, 2012 after leading Coastal to the opening victory in The HTC Center.
Cameron averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in two wins last week. He started the week with a team-leading 14 points on 5-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three to lead CCU to a 14-point win over South Carolina State. Cameron then led Coastal with 22 points on 8-of-17 from the floor, including four 3-pointers, to go along with a season-high nine rebounds in a 58-54 win at Auburn. Against the Tigers, Cameron scored 13 of Coastal's 23 first-half points and added nine points in the second stanza. His putback with 3:17 to play gave Coastal its first lead of the game at 51-50, and he would score his final points on a fast break layup to give Coastal a three-point lead with just over two minutes to play.
Despite the adjustment to the sixth man role this season, Cameron leads the team in scoring at 15.5 points per outing. His points per game average ranks seventh-best in the Big South, while his 40.0 percentage from 3-point land ranks fourth.
The Chants return to action Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. as hosts to Warren Wilson College.
