BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Letitia Saayman won her second straight race to begin the season leading the Coastal Carolina women's track team to a second-place finish at the Big South Preview Saturday morning at Gardner-Webb. The Chanticleer men's team finished fifth in the meet.

Saayman clocked a time of 18:08.43 to win the 5K race by 34 seconds and notch her fifth career individual title. Teammates Kyla van Graan and Aynslee van Graan joined Saayman among the top five, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Kyla van Graan completed the race in 19:05.93, with her sister just behind in 19:15.51.

Freshman Alesia Muklebust and Rachel Byrd rounded out the Chanticleer women's top five. Muklebust placed 18th overall in 20:09.96, while Byrd finished 22nd in 20:25.34.

Despite not having an individual runner among the top five, the High Point women's team won the meet with a score of 41 points. Coastal was second with 50, followed by Liberty in third with 67. High Point had five runners place finish between sixth and 11th place, individually.

Joseph Keitt was the top finisher for the Coastal men for the second straight event, taking eighth place overall in the 8K race with a time of 26:05.79.

Evan Niciphor placed 19th with a time of 27:13.84, while Daniel Riff took 24th place in 27:41.22. Zach Hensel finished 43rd (29:18.53) and Tyler Cummings was 50th (30:01.24) to round out Coastal's scorers.

High Point's men won the meet with 28 points, Liberty was second with 49 and Campbell placed third with 65. Radford took fourth with 122 and CCU totaled 132.

Coastal's teams return to action next Saturday when they compete in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill.
