ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The fourth-ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team fell by a 3-2 final to UNC Asheville Sunday afternoon at the Bulldogs' Greenwood field.
Asheville (4-5-1, 1-3-0 Big South) used goals in the fifth, 45th and 83rd minute to upend the previously unbeaten Chanticleers (7-1-1, 2-1-0 Big South). Coastal counted goals from Louis Dargent and Bryce Follensbee.
UNC Asheville got on the board first in the fifth minute as Brendan O'Dowd found the net. O'Dowd received a pass near the top of the 18 and buried his cross-body shot into the right side netting. The goal gave the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead.
Coastal got the goal back in the 35th minute to level the score at 1-1 as Louis Dargent notched his second goal in the past two outings. Darius Strambler was credited with the assist as he received a pass in the box and played it back to Dargent who hammered his low-lying shot past the diving Asheville keeper.
The Bulldogs the scored with four seconds to play in the half to take a 2-1 lead. Andrew Lawrence netted the goal on a header following a rebound on a shot by Chuka Anyafo.
Coastal tied the game 2-2 in the 56th minute as Follensbee scored his sixth of the season. Follensbee's goal was assisted by Dargent and Tobenna Uzo.
Asheville found the game-winning goal in the 86th minute as Anyafo scored off on assists by Joe Lacasto and Brandon Millington.
Coastal appeared to score the equalizer with three minutes to play on a free kick, but an offside was called against the Chants.
The physical match, which saw five Bulldogs carded, ended with Coastal holding an 11-10 shot advantage and an 11-4 edge in corner kicks.
