CONWAY - The 11th-ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team received goals from Sergio Camargo and Jair Espinoza to defeat Campbell by a 2-1 score Wednesday night in Big South Conference action at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
Coastal improved to 8-1-1 on the season and 2-1-0 in Big South play, while the Fighting Camels fell to 4-6-0 overall and 0-3-0 in league action.
The Chanticleers netted each of their goals in the first half to take the early lead into the intermission. Camargo scored his fourth of the year in the 21st minute, followed by Espinoza with his third 1:20 later. Campbell closed the gap on the scoreboard in the 88th minute as Eric Rostlund notched his first of the season.
Camargo received the ball on the left side just beyond the edge of the 18-yard box. The crafty Colombian beat his immediate defender to the edge of the 6-yard box and placed a low-lying shot into the far side netting. The goal was the 19th of his career.
Espinoza doubled the Chants' advantage with his back-heel goal from 12-yards out at the 21:54 mark. Miguel Gutierrez centered a ball toward Espinoza, who elevated and redirected the ball into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
The Chanticleers controlled much of the play during the second half, but it was Campbell that made the most of its opportunities. Campbell, which was held without a shot in the first half, notched six second-half shots, including Rostlund's goal. The scoring play was started by Josh Signey with a pass to Reafe Anderson on the left flank. Anderson centered the ball into the box that was volleyed into the back of the net by Rostlund.
The Chanticleers ended the match with a 15-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Coastal's Fernando Pina recorded a pair of saves as he improved his record to 8-1-1 on the year. Campbell's Matthew Mozynski (3-6-0) made five saves.
Coastal plays its second of three consecutive home matches on Saturday as hosts to rival Liberty. The match, which is scheduled for Noon, will be streamed live on th¬¬¬e Big South Network. Coastal has won each of its last four meetings against the Flames by a combined 8-0 score.
FIRST HALF:
5' Arnar Geirsson registered the first shot of the game. Coastal used a good spell of build-up to open Geirsson for the shot attempt.
14' Bryce Follensbee nearly had his third goal in as many games as Darius Strambler found Follensbee free in the midfield, but the shot attempt went wide of the post.

88' Rostlund brought the Camels back within a goal with his first counter of the season. Anderson, who received the ball from Signey, centered the ball into the box that was volleyed into the back of the net by Rostlund.
90' The final horn sounded, resulting in a 2-1 Chanticleer victory.
