CAMDEN - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team shot an opening-round 293 and a second-round 297 Saturday for a 36-hole total of 590 to stand in seventh place at the Camden Collegiate Invitational, played at the par 70 Camden Country Club.
Host South Carolina leads the 11-team field thanks to an impressive 265 in the afternoon session and a two-round total of 553. Wofford is second (575) while Furman and USA Aiken are tied for third (580).
Alfredo Ruiz carded an opening-round, even-par 70 followed by a 2-over 72. The junior is tied for eighth -- five strokes off the lead -- with a 36-hole score of 142. Daniel Overas shook off a disappointing outing in his collegiate debut the last time out to shoot a 5-over 145 with rounds of 72-73. The freshman is tied for 19th.
Olle Widegren (75-75=15) is tied for 40th, Luis Ruiz (76-77=153) and Josh Pisarri (79-82=161) is tied for 73rd.
The Camden Collegiate Invitational will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
