CONWAY - Coastal Carolina senior Alex Ross, one of the most productive quarterbacks in the NCAA FCS over the last three seasons, was named to the 25-man American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS All-American Team, the organization announced today.

The AFCA All-American team is selected by the FCS coaches and the organization has been honoring players since 1945. It is one of the most exclusive postseason teams as it selects only one player per position -- 11 on offense, 11 on defense and three specialists. Ross is the fourth Chanticleer to be named to the prestigious squad, joining quarterback Tyler Thigpen (2006), cornerback Josh Norman (2011) and offensive lineman Chad Hamilton (2014).

This season, Ross (Alpharetta, Ga./Buford HS) led the Big South in nine offensive categories, while ranking seventh in the FCS in passing efficiency (155.8), seventh in completion percentage (.668), 10th in passing yards per attempt (8.7), 12th in passing yards (3,009) and 17th in passing TDs (21). Ross led CCU to its fourth consecutive NCAA FCS playoff berth -- being one of just six schools to accomplish the feat -- while leading Coastal to a #1 national rank in the FCS Coaches' poll for eight of the 12 weeks during 2015 regular season.

Ross, a two-time National Offensive Player of the Year finalist, completed 231-of-346 passes this season for 3,009 yards and 21 touchdowns. He was named first team All-Big South for the third consecutive season, becoming the first player to be a three-time first team All-Big South selection at quarterback. He also became the first Big South quarterback to throw for at least 3,000 yards in a season three times. CCU's Thigpen is the only other Big South quarterback to throw for at least 3,000 yards in a season, accomplished in the 2006 season.

In addition to his on-field success, Ross was named second team Division I Academic All-America and the Big South football Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In fact, he is the first player in league history to be both a Player of the Year (Offensive in 2014) and a sport's Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2015).

Ross is the Big South's all-time leader in total offense (11,482) and shattered the CCU all-time marks for pass attempts (1,174), pass completions (760), passing yards (9,918), passing TDs (72), pass completion percentage (.647) and pass efficiency (151.8).

Ross had more wins as an FCS starting quarterback (32) over the last three seasons than any other signal-caller and finished his career 33-8 (.805) as CCU's starter under center. (Ross started and won one game as a freshman in 2012, but missed one game -- a CCU win over VMI -- in 2013.). He ranks 19th in NCAA FCS history with his 151.85 career pass efficiency rating, while his 11,482 career yards of total offense stands 24th in NCAA FCS history. Ross additionally ended his career second among active FCS quarterbacks in career passing yards, career total offense and career passing touchdowns.

Other Chanticleers to leave their mark in the NCAA FCS record book (through 2014 season):
• Quinn Backus: 10th in career solo tackles (243); 14th in career total tackles (441)
• Quinton Teal: 8th-tied in career passes defended (48)
• Josh Norman: 8th-tied in career passes defended (48)
• LaDarius Hawthorne: 4th-tied in most blocked field goals in a season (3); 9th-tied in most blocked field goals in a career (3).
