Chants Fall to Jacksonville, 17-11

Feb. 28, 2015

Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team found itself in a second-half hole they couldn't get out of as they ultimately fell to Jacksonville by a score of 17-11 on Saturday at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

The Dolphins came out firing in the game's final 30 minutes as they built upon their 10-6 halftime lead and outscored the Chants 5-1 in the first 11 minutes after intermission. However, much like against Virginia Tech, Coastal fought hard to score three unanswered goals and cut Jacksonville's lead to 15-10 with 10:59 to play. Ultimately, though, the comeback effort came up short.

With the loss, Coastal fell to 1-2 on the season while Jacksonville improved to 4-1. The game marked only the second time in eight contests the Chants have lost to an Atlantic Sun Conference opponent.

Offensively, the Chants jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead but allowed the Dolphins to score seven of the game's next eight goals and were never able to regain it. Both Coastal Carolina's Jen Cosgrove and Jacksonville's Danielle Della Rocca continued their hot starts to the 2015 season as they each totaled six points. Cosgrove's scoring came on four goals and two assists, tying and recording a career high, respectively. Through three games this season, the Chanticleer senior attack has now totaled 13 points on 10 goals and three assists. On the opposite end, Della Rocca scored three goals to go along with three assists.

Coastal Carolina sophomore goal keeper Jenna Stover tied a career high with nine saves in the game. She and the Chanticleer defense fought hard, however, the discrepancy in shots, 44-20 in favor of Jacksonville, proved to be too much to overcome.

For the Dolphins, Rachel Aus and Hannah Wilcox each matched Della Rocca's hat trick while Holly Ventimiglia, Abby Remenapp and Brittney Orashen added two goals. Jess Worcester tallied 10 draw controls in the game.

For the Chants, junior attacks Sara Nolan and Keri White, playing in her first game this season, also made key contributions. Nolan found the back of the net twice while White scored one goal, tied a career high with three assists and set a career high with seven draw controls.

The Chanticleers will hit the road for a date with Elon on Friday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m. before returning home to host Delaware State on Sunday, March 8.
