CONWAY, S.C. – The 2026 Nissin World Lacrosse Women's Championship is set to begin July 24 in Tokyo, Japan, and run through Aug. 2, with two Chanticleers representing their countries on the international stage.
Coastal Carolina assistant coach Abby Thorne will compete for Team Australia, while incoming sophomore Annie Devine will represent Team Ireland.
It is always an absolute honor to represent Australia on the world stage, Thorne said. I am excited for the challenge and can't wait to see Annie and me represent our countries and Coastal with pride.
Devine, who spent her freshman season at Florida State before transferring to Coastal Carolina, echoed her coach's excitement.
I am so excited to wear the green uniform of Team Ireland, connect with my Irish heritage and play the sport I love with and against the best players in the world, Devine said.
Thorne and Team Australia enter the tournament ranked No. 4 in the world and will compete in Pool B, while No. 13 Ireland will play in Pool A. Australia opens pool play against No. 2 Canada on July 25, while Ireland faces top-ranked Team USA.
The United States has won nine world championships, while Australia has claimed two titles.
Thorne has competed with the Australian Senior National Team since 2022, representing her country at the 2022 World Championship and the 2025 World Games, where she helped Australia earn a bronze medal.
Devine is expected to make her international debut.
The championship returns to Tokyo for the first time since 1997, two years before women's lacrosse makes its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Fans can follow the championship through World Lacrosse TV, where all games will be streamed live.
