Cosgrove, Yednock to be Honored vs. Presbyterian

April 18, 2015

CONWAY - Senior midfielder Lily Yednock and senior attack Jen Cosgrove of the Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will be recognized for their career achievements prior to the Chanticleers' final regular season home game against Presbyterian on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Chanticleers are a perfect 2-0 in a pair of previous matchups against Presbyterian as they defeated the Blue Hose 16-15 in Clinton, S.C. in 2013 and followed it with an 18-7 win in the regular season and home finale last season.

Yednock, who hails from Columbus, Ohio, came to Coastal Carolina by way of Jacksonville University, where she played her freshman season. She has been a part of the Chanticleer women's lacrosse program since its inaugural season in 2013 and currently ranks as the program's all-time leader in ground balls (71) and caused turnovers (53), despite playing in only 26 of a possible 46 games throughout her career. She was named second team All-Big South in 2013 and was an honorable mention honoree last season. Additionally, the senior midfielder is a two-time Big South All-Academic Team selection (2013, 2014) and was named the 2013 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Prior to being sidelined for the remainder of her senior season following the Virginia Tech game, Yednock earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors for her stellar performance in a 15-4 season-opening win at Stetson.

Cosgrove, like Yednock, also played at Jacksonville University before transferring to Coastal Carolina after her sophomore season and joining the Chanticleers prior to last season. The Stevensville, Md., native missed all but five games last year with an ACL injury, but was inserted into the lineup at the season's end and has been an important cog for the Chanticleers' offense ever since. Cosgrove recorded four goals and one assist in the final five games of 2014 and currently ranks second on the team with 24 goals and third with seven assists this season. With at least three games to play in 2015, her 24 goals and 31 points currently rank tied for fourth and fifth, respectively, on the Chanticleers' single-season record list. Additionally, the senior's career-high, five-goal performance in a 14-8 win at Furman on March 20 is tied for the second-most by a Chanticleer in a single-game in program history.

"I am immensely proud of these two seniors and all that they have accomplished. While they both came to Coastal as transfers, their value to our program, both on and off the field, cannot be measured," said head coach Jaime Sellers. "Lily's dedication and work ethic helped set a standard for our program from the get go. She is a competitor with a desire to achieve excellence, and that passion proved to be a steady example for our young players to emulate on the field. Jen came to us a year after Lily, but her presence immediately changed the landscape of our leadership. She has an unmatched love for the game, a positive spirit and an incredible amount of determination. I am proud of the growth they have both shown on and off the playing field over the course of their careers, and I know they will both find success in whatever comes next."

Sunday's recognition ceremony is scheduled to being at 12:45 p.m. with the game slated to start at 1 p.m. at the CCU Soccer Stadium. The game will also be available on the Big South Network. Be sure to arrive early to show your support for these two upstanding student-athletes.
