April 23, 2015 BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season schedule as they travel to Buies Creek, N.C., to take on Campbell University at Barker-Lane Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Chanticleers are 2-0 all-time against the Camels after taking a 13-12 decision in the regular season finale in Buies Creek in 2013 and also winning by a final score of 14-10 in Conway a season ago.
Coastal Carolina will look to cap off its best season in the program's three year history and enter next week's Big South Conference Championship on a good note. The Chants come into the game with a 9-5 overall record and 4-2 conference record. After starting the season 1-3, the team has rattled off eight wins in its last 10 games and is currently third in the Big South Conference standings.
A balance on both offense and defense has been the difference for the 2015 Chanticleers as they rank second in the league in scoring defense (9.14) and fourth in scoring offense (12.21). Those marks are good for 30th and 31st-best in the NCAA this season.
Offensively, junior attack Keri White has been the headliner for the Chants as she leads the team in points (43) and assists (13) and is tied with Jen Cosgrove for the team lead in goals (30). White has found the back of the net two or more times in nine games this season and has registered six hat tricks. She ranks fifth in the conference in points per game (3.58) and sixth in goals per game (2.50).
Defensively, junior Maddy Ciardi has been the leader of a group that has held opponents to single-digit goals in six games this season, including each of the last two. She leads the team in caused turnovers (18), while also ranking second in ground balls (21) and fourth in draw controls (14).
On the other side, Campbell also enters Friday's game playing arguably its best lacrosse of the season. The Camels boast a 5-11 overall record and are 2-4 in conference but have won each of their last two games against Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb by a combined margin of 40-16.
Although Coastal Carolina has already guaranteed itself a top-four finish in conference play and will host a Big South quarterfinal game for the first time in program history on Tuesday, April 28 at 6 p.m., a win would solidify their third-place standing and force a rematch against Campbell next week. A loss could shake up the conference standings for teams seeded third through sixth.
Friday's game at Campbell will be broadcasted on the Big South Network and live stats will also be available here. Be sure to check GoCCUSports.com following the conclusion of the regular season finale for the latest news on who the Chanticleers will host next Tuesday.
