Chants' Streak Snapped in 18-8 Defeat at Liberty

April 6, 2015

Final Stats

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team had a program-best, five-game winning streak snapped after losing to the Liberty Flames by a final score of 18-8 at the Liberty Lacrosse Field on Monday afternoon.

The Chanticleers, who had won their previous five games by a combined score of 72-30 coming into today, were outdone in nearly every offensive category as Liberty got off 37 shots to Coastal's 22 and recorded 22 draw control and 18 ground balls to Coastal's 17 and 10.

After the Flames scored three consecutive goals in the game's first 3:18, the Chants were unable to mount a comeback. They cut Liberty's lead to one goal at two separate times in the first half with the score at 3-2 with 22:00 to play and again at 6-5 with 9:48 to play, but that's as close as they would get.

Liberty took a 9-6 lead into halftime and came out with six consecutive goals to start the second half. They outscored the Chanticleers 9-2 in the final 30:00 to secure the conference win.

For Coastal, junior attack Sara Nolan netted her second hat trick of the season, while Keri White and Courtney Genovese each added two goals. White, who also added an assist to go along with four ground balls and two draw controls in today's game, has now scored multiple goals in six of the Chants' last seven games. Additionally, the two goals for Genovese are a new career high.

For Liberty, four players were able to net hat tricks, led by freshman attack Katy Pridemore's four goals and three assists.

With the loss, Coastal falls to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Liberty improves to 4-8 and 2-0 in the Big South. The Flames also take a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams.

Coastal will return to Conway and continue conference play as they host High Point, the two-time defending Big South tournament champions, on Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Big South Network.
