CONWAY - Coastal Carolina set the tone on both ends of the floor in the early going with a game-opening 25-0 run and the Chanticleers rolled to an 87-58 victory over Presbyterian College Thursday evening at the HTC Center.

Junior Ron Trapps scored a career-high 21 points, which included five 3-pointers, in a career-high 27 minutes to lead five Chanticleers (9-8, 3-4 Big South) in double-figures. Jaylen Shaw and Elijah Wilson each poured in 15 points, while Badou Diagne added 14 and Marcus Freeman 10. Shivaughn Wiggins dished out a career-high nine assists and Freeman led CCU with a game-high nine boards.

The Chanticleers shot 52.4 percent for the game, including a 42.3 percentage from beyond the arc. Coastal also dominated the glass 43-26 and outscored their guests 40-22 in the paint.

Reggie Dillard led Presbyterian (7-10, 2-4 Big South) with 11 points, while DeSean Murray, who entered the contest as the Big South's leading scorer at 21.4 points per game, finished with 10 points on 11 attempts.

The Blue Hose shot just 35.1 percent for the game and only 30.4 percent from 3-point range.

Coastal took control of the game in the first four minutes and built a 13-0 lead on two 3-pointers by Shaw, one by Trapps and five points via Diagne. The Chants continued to roll during the next six minutes, continuing their run and building a 25-0 lead before PC's Markus Terry finally put the Blue Hose on the board with a mid-range jumper. The 25-0 run was highlighted by eight points from Shaw six by Trapps and an emphatic dunk by Wilson.

The Chanticleers continued their offensive onslaught over the remaining 10 minutes of the opening stanza, resulting in a 50-24 halftime lead. The Chants led by as many as 30 throughout the half on their way to shooting an impressive 64.3 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from 3-point range.

Equally as impressive as the first-half points was Coastal's defensive effort that produced five blocked shots, six steals and 16 defensive rebounds.

Wilson and Diagne combined for a quick 10-0 run in the opening two minutes of the second half, pushing the lead to a then-game-high 36-point lead at 60-24.

Presbyterian, which trailed by as many as 42 during the middle stages of the second period, used a 12-point game-ending run to cut its final score deficit to 87-58.

Coastal Carolina travels to the state of North Carolina on Sat., Jan. 16, to face Big South preseason favorite High Point. The game, which will be carried live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app, is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
