CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team went 2-0 this Saturday afternoon, with a pair of wins over Towson (3-2) and Cleveland State (9-0). The Chanticleers improved their record to 3-6 on the 2016 campaign.
Coastal saw action against Towson in game one of the day for the Chants going scoreless in the first inning.
With two outs in the bottom of the second, Coastal's Bri Chiusano RBI singled driving in Angela Buccilli to take the lead 1-0. After a few pitches later, the Chants had bases loaded with Morgan Noad at bat. Noad popped up to center field to end the inning.
Towson tied it up in the top of the fourth with an RBI single with two outs on the board. The Tigers then popped one up to CCUs shortstop for the third out.
Senior Kelsey Dominik hit a homer to center field off the very first pitch in the bottom of the fifth. Going 1-2-3 outs, the Tigers were able to hold of Coastal trying to limit the damage.
The next time Dominik came up to bat was in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and two runners on base. Dominik RBI singled driving in Taty Forbes to take a 3-1 lead.
Towson tried to start a comeback attempt earning a run in the top of the seventh making it 3-2 off a home run to right field. The Chants had three straight back-to-back outs to end the game.
The Chanticleers headed into the second game tacking on a win, and with CCUs momentum kept the first inning scoreless. Keeping that momentum going, Annie Robinson hit a home run to center field to take the lead versus Cleveland State 1-0.
Holding off the Vikings in the top of the third, Coastal tallied five runs in the bottom of the third taking a large 6-0 lead. Robinson hit her second home run of the game driving in two runs making it 4-0. After Timi Tooley was walked, Alexis Alvino hits a bomb to left field for the team's second home run of the inning and third of the game.
Coastal was not done yet, after two walked RBIs and a fielder's choice RBI, Coastal to a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth over Cleveland State.
The next three outs for Cleveland State ended the game to give Coastal its second win of the day.
