DURHAM, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon as the Chanticleers (6-2, 1-0) fell to #54 Duke (5-6, 0-0) at the Blue Devil's Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

The loss is Coastal's first since Jan. 31 at William & Mary.

Duke won the opening doubles point before taking three straight in singles to seal the win. The singles matches on courts one, four and six went unfinished.

Daniel McCall and Jason Lapidus opened the match with a 6-4, No. 3 doubles win over Luiz Faria and Rick Timmerman. Pedro Leme and Vuk Velickovic then evened the point at No. 1, topping Nicolas Alvarez and Ryan Dickerson 6-4.

The doubles point came down to the second court, where Catalin Mateas and Vincent Lin narrowly edged Sebastian Schneider and Jabor Al-Mutawa, 7-6 (8-6).

"This was our best showing in doubles this season," said Chanticleer coach Chris Powers. "I was really proud of the way we competed against a national power. Hopefully we can build on playing a really good opponent back home tomorrow against East Carolina."

Mateas opened singles with a win over Velickovic at No. 2, followed by Lin downing Leme at No. 3 and Dickerson besting Timmerman at No. 5. All three of the Blue Devil's singles win came in straight sets.

Coastal returns to its home court, where it is 5-0 this season, on Sunday to host East Carolina for a noon matcup.
