#22 Coastal Carolina Stumbles versus Wake Forest

Box Score March 8, 2016

Final Stats

CONWAY - Wake Forest only scored in two innings but put up six runs in the first and five in the seventh to claim an 11-0 victory over #22 Coastal Carolina Tuesday evening at Springs Brooks Stadium. The same teams will square off again Wednesday with first pitch set for 5 pm.

The Demon Deacons snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Chanticleers dating back to 2009. However, Wake Forest only out-hit Coastal 8-6 but drew eight walks and had three batters hit by pitches.

In the first, the Deacons first three batters reached on walk, a hit by pitch and walk. Reigning ACC Player of the Year Will Craig lined an RBI single to left field and Ben Breazeale reached on an infield single to give Wake a 2-0 lead. With the bases still loaded, Stuart Fairchild walked to force in the game's third run and Gavin Sheets was hit by a pitch for a 4-0 cushion. Keegan Maronpot plated a run when he reached on a fielder's choice and Johnny Aiello capped the scoring for the inning by reaching on an error.

After the explosive start, neither team scored until the top of the seventh.

Joey Rodriguez and Kevin Conway had leadoff walks to start the frame for Wake Forest. Nate Mondou followed with an RBI double to put the Deacons up 7-0. Coastal intentionally walked Craig to load the bases. Austin Kitchen got a pop out but Fairchild found a hole in the left side of the infield to make the score 8-0. Gavin Sheets delivered a two-run double and Maronpot had an RBI groundout for what proved to be the 11-0 final score.

Seth Lancaster led CCU with two hits. Chris Davidson (0-1) suffered the loss.
