LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team began the 2016 Big South Championship with a commanding 4-0 win over #8 Radford in Thursday's first quarterfinal match.

The top-seed Chanticleers (19-3) advance to Friday's semifinal round where they will face the winner of #4 Gardner-Webb vs. #5 Liberty, which is set to take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday from the Cook Tennis Center. Coastal defeated both Gardner-Webb and Liberty earlier this year, edging the former 4-3 on April 2 before defeating the latter by a 6-1 margin on April 6 to finish the regular season.

Friday's semifinals will be another 11 a.m. start.

Coastal opened Thursday's match with a dominant doubles performance, getting a 6-1 victory from its top pairing of Pedro Leme and Vuk Velickovic before Luiz Faria and Rick Timmerman clinched the point with a 6-4 win at No. 2.

Timmerman opened singles by defeating Michiel Meekers on the fifth court, 6-2, 6-2.

Velickovic followed on the second court with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Samuel Taylor, and Faria finished the match for Coastal on the sixth court, where he bested Jose Moreno Manzano, 6-3, 6-1.
