COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team started the South Carolina-hosted Palmetto Invitational with a pair of 4-1 losses on Saturday, falling first to South Carolina and then to UNC Wilmington at Wheeler Beach.

Coastal drops to 2-8 with the pair of defeats, and has two regular season matches remaining on Sunday. The Chants close the Palmetto Invitational with contests against LSU (9 a.m.) and Carson-Newman (3 p.m.).

Coastal's top pairing of Natasa Savovic and Alise Petersone stood out as the only Chanticleer duos to record a point in each match. The junior/freshman combo started the day with a 21-16, 21-12 victory against South Carolina's Julia Mannisto and Shannon Williams, and followed with 21-19, 21-14 win over UNCW's top pairing of Bell Borgiotti and Katie McCullough.

The Chants' No. 1 pairing improves its season record to 6-4 with Saturday's wins.

Tahleia Bishop and Aleksandra Djuric (No. 2); Leah Hardeman and Carla Cahill (No. 3); and Sara Booth and Mika Mierzwa (No. 4) suffered back-to-back, straight-sets losses on the day.

Iva Mandic, playing at No. 5, started the day against South Carolina with a straight-sets loss while paired with Annayka Legros, and later followed with a similar loss against UNCW while paired with Dora Lulic.
