COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team split its final two regular season matches Sunday at the Palmetto Invitational, falling 5-0 to LSU before edging Carson Newman by a 3-2 score to close out the tournament.

Sunday's split moves to the Chanticleers to 3-9 on the season. Next up for Coastal is its inaugural appearance in the Atlantic Sun Beach Volleyball Championship, set to begin April 22 in Emerson, Ga.

Coastal has been selected as the sixth seed in the tournament, and will face #3 Florida Gulf Coastal in the opening round at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Due to the Chants not playing a true conference schedule, the seeding was determined based on overall record and strength of schedule.

Coastal's shutout at the hands of LSU saw each of the five matches end in straight sets. The Chanticleer lineup looked similar to the previous day's action, with Natasa Savovic and Alise Petersone on the first court, followed by Tahleia Bishop and Aleksandra Djruic (No. 2), Leah Hardeman and Carla Cahill (No. 3), Sara Boothe and Mika Mierzwa (No. 4), and Iva Mandic and Dora Lulic (No. 6).

Coastal's order remained the same for the win over Carson Newman.

Savovic/Petersone improved to a team-best 7-5 record with a 21-11, 21-12 victory on the first court. Bishop/Djuric also won in straight sets, downing Molly Locke/Maddie Zyburt at No. 2. Coastal's final point came at No. 4, where Boothe/Mierzwa won in three sets, 21-8, 18-21, 15-9 over Tina Hill/Natalie Harris.

Coastal's third and fifth pairings to their respective matches to three sets but ultimately fell, giving Carson Newman its only two points of the day.
