NINETY-SIX - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team remains in seventh place at the Big South Championships with a two-day total of 601 at the par 72, 7,120-yard Patriot Golf Club.
Liberty remains atop the team leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 567, followed by Charleston Southern (574) and Campbell (578).
Ryan Carpenter led the Chants in round two, shooting a 2-under par 70. With his effort, the junior jumped eight spots to 10th (75-70=145). Carpenter made the turn Monday at 3-under par thanks to birdies on holes 6 and 9, a bogey on hole 7 and an eagle on the par-5 8th hole. He moved to 4-under for the round after a birdie on hole 13. He closed the round with three bogeys and a birdie on a par-3 17th hole for his round of 70.
Thadd Obecny II was CCU's top mover on day two. The sophomore posted a round of even par 72 and climbed 12 spots into a tie for 27th with a 36-hole total of 151 (79-72). Obecny opened the day with a birdie but had a bogey on hole 3. He then posted a birdie on the par 3 7th hole to get back to 1-under. Obecny reeled off nine straight pars before dropping a shot on the 17th hole. He finished the round with a par to post his even-par round of 72 .
Olle Widegren is tied for 34th (75-78=153). He was 6-over on one hole, #11, and finished the round with a 6-over 78. He mixed in an eagle on the par 4 6th hole as well as posting birdies on holes 4, 12, and 18.
Luis Ruiz is tied for 45th (78-79=157) and Alfredo Ruiz is in 47th place (74-84=158).
The Big South Championships will conclude with 18 final holes on Tuesday.
