BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team won a tight 4-3 match at Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Big South play and hold its top spot in the conference standings.

Coastal's (16-3, 6-0) victory was its 16th of the season, tying the program's all-time record for wins in a season set by the 1994 Chanticleers.

Gardner-Webb (8-10, 2-4) took the upper hand early the match after capturing the doubles point.

Coastal's third pairing of Rick Timmerman and Luiz Faria recorded a 6-2 win over Yaroslav Prostakov and Adams Schmidt, but the Chants could not finish off the point as the Runnin' Bulldogs took courts two and one by 6-4 and 7-5 scores, respectively.

The Chants responded with a dominant round of singles, however, claiming four of six points to finish off the narrow victory.

Vuk Velickovic (No. 2), Pedro Leme (No. 3) and Timmerman (No. 5) each tallied straight-sets wins on their respective courts. Sebasitan Schneider finished off Benjamin Kaszas in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, on the fourth court for Coastal's final point of the match.

GWU's singles points came on the first and sixth courts courtesy of Maximillian Scholl and Jonathan Walker, respectively.

"We missed an opportunity in doubles to really take control of the match, but the guys stepped up in singles once again to get the win," said Chanticleer coach Chris Powers. "Any win on the road is tough to get in this league, and we have to carry this momentum into our match at Winthrop tomorrow. They are a very tough and well coached team."

Coastal's match at Winthrop -- its last away match before the Big South Championship -- is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday. Winthrop (9-11, 3-2) currently sits in fifth in the league standings.
