Clemson Invitational Results

CLEMSON, S.C - Led by top-three finishes from Tiffany Harris and the distance medley team, the Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team opened the 2017 indoor season competing at the Clemson Invitational Saturday in an all-day event.

Sophomore Anacia Hines started the day off for the Chants competing in the women's 60 meter dash crossing the line with a time 9.23. Hines finished 3rd in her heat.

In the women's 500 meter dash, freshman Tiffany Harris took home a 2nd place in her debut performance as a Chanticleer clocking in at 1:16.07. Harris' time was just over two seconds off of the CCU record. Also for the Chants, Golden Kumi-Darfor (1:17.74) finished 5th and Imani Boatwright (1:17.98) took home 6th.

Four Chanticleers ran in the 60 meter dash with Carina Frey pacing the group and qualified for the finals. Frey ran a 7.72 in the prelims round before running her best of the night in the finals with a time of 7.70 to place seventh overall. Karissa Lunn finished with a time of 7.87 while Kelsey Briggs (8.04) and Courtney Lawson (8.23) rounded out the race for the Chants.

Alyssa LeClaire led the group of three Chants in the women's 1 mile crossing the line at 5:14.36 to finish eighth overall. Alesia Mukelbust finished with a time of 5:27.37 while Kayla Tracy crossed the line at 5:32.93.

In the women's 300 meter dash, Olivia Coopwood (42.99), Erica Evans (44.05) and Kiana Robinson (44.55) represented the teal finishing back-to-back in 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively.

Sarah Lemon (11:41.62), Taylor Creagh (11:58.64), Alexis Carpenter (12:00.80) and Giovanna Leone (12:07.17) all competed in the women's 3000 meter dash and crossed the finish line one after another.

The Chants distance medley team composed of Leone, Tracy, Carpenter and Lemon took home a 3rd place finish. The team clocked in at 13:47.75 improving on their 14:00.00 seed time.

In the field for Coastal, Erica Evans had her best jump of the night with a mark of 1.60m (5-03.00) earning her a ninth place finish in the women's high jump. Taylor McGruder finished 6th overall in the triple jump leaping 11.53 (37-10.00). Nadia White (5.37m) and Kelsey Briggs (5.47m) took home a 7th and 8th place finish in the long jump.

Samantha Layko finished ninth overall in the women's weight throw with a mark of 14.34m (47-00.75).

To close out the day for the Chanticleers, Elizabeth Allard improved with a 3.35m (10-11.75) mark in the women's pole vault.

The Chanticleers next test awaits in Virginia at the Hokie Invitational. The meet is set to take place on Friday, January 20 and finish on Saturday, January 21 at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Virginia.
