ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team won its first away match of the season Tuesday afternoon, downing South Carolina State 4-2 at the Bulldogs' Hardeep Judge Tennis Center.

South Carolina State (1-4) captured the opening doubles point before the Chants (3-1) rallied in singles, winning on courts one, four, five and six.

"We came out flat today and it cost us in doubles, but luckily I think we hit the mental reset button and competed really well on nearly every court in singles," said Chanticleer head coach Chris Powers. "We still have to iron out some inconsistencies, but it is a work in progress with a very young squad."

SC State won the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 victories on the first and third courts. The second doubles match went unfinished with Coastal's pairing of Vuk Velickovic and Francesco Cori Gamero leading 4-2.

All four of Coastal's singles points were won in straight sets.

Velickovic topped Martin Figura on the top court, 6-4, 6-1. Francesco Migliano won a pair of 6-3 sets over Soufiane Mouline at No. 4. Jose Ortega delivered a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5, and Gamero downed Stanislav Baco on the sixth court, 6-4, 6-3.

The Bulldogs' lone singles point came on the third court, where Jakub Vitek bested Zak Talic in straight sets.

The No. 2 singles match between Vladyslav Yanchenko and Luiz Faria went unfinished.

With its first road match out of the way, Coastal returns to the friendly confines of the Stevens Tennis Complex for a three-match home stand, beginning with UNC Wilmington on Friday at 1 p.m.
