CLEMSON – For the second time in less than a year, Coastal Carolina's men's soccer team went into Clemson and defeated the Tigers. The 1-0 victory for the Chanticleers was CCU's sixth win of the season.
The only goal scored came in the 24
th minute when
Yazeed Matthews got in the box and took a pass from
Tyrone Mondi to score what turned out to be the match-winner.
It was a match that saw Clemson keep pressure on the CCU defense the entire match and out shot CCU 18-8, including 7-2 in shots on goal.
Withstanding the shot barrage of the Tigers was CCU goalkeeper
Chris Dattalo who stopped seven shots, which is tied for the second-most saves he has had in a match this season.
Clemson also had five corner kicks compared to a couple for CCU, but the Chants did apply pressure of their own being called for seven offsides during the match.
Tonight's match was the first of four consecutive road trips for CCU. Their next match will be Saturday, Oct. 20 when the Chants jump back into conference action at Howard. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
