CONWAY - Due to Hurricane Florence, Coastal Carolina women's soccer team's Play With Pride event originally set for Sept. 17-23 has been moved to tonight as the Chants host Louisiana at 6 p.m. ET for their first home match since Sept. 6. CCU's team will show their support for athletes and coaches of all sexual orientations by wearing rainbow colored shoe laces.
Free laces are available upon request for all United Soccer Coaches members at the high school and collegiate level.
"Soccer is an amazingly diverse sport," said head coach
Paul Hogan. "We've played with and against people of so many various backgrounds. Sexual orientation and gender identity is one more part of that diversity. We were proud to honor that when we laced up our boots and took the field."
Play With Pride is a new initiative from United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) developed by the association's LGBT Coaches and Allies Member Group. Originally held from Sept. 17-23, players and coaches were encouraged to wear the rainbow laces during matches and post on social media with the hashtag #PlayWithPride to promote their team's participation in Play With Pride week.
