CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team gets the 2018-19 season underway on Tuesday as the Chanticleers host Western Carolina for a 5 p.m. game at the HTC Center. The women's game marks the first half of a Coastal basketball doubleheader, with the men's game versus Ferrum to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Series History
Tuesday's game will be the 12th all-time meeting in the series between Coastal and Western Carolina, and first game between the schools since the 2012-13 season. Coastal trails in the series, 4-7, but won the last three games between 2009-12.
It will also be the second time in the series' history that Coastal and Western Carolina open their season against each other. The two began the 1996-97 campaign at Kimbel Arena, with the Catamounts narrowly winning that contest, 81-79.
Coastal in Season Openers
Coastal is 25-19 all-time in season opening games. The Chants have lost just one season opener in the
Jaida Williams era, falling 64-57 at Clemson to open the 2016-17 season.
Coastal is 17-4 all-time when opening its season at home. The Chants have not lost a season opener at home since 2004-05 when they fell to Anderson to begin the year.
Familiar Faces
Coastal is returning 11 of its 12 student-athletes from the 2017-18 season. The Chants' only loss was the departure of senior
Jas Adams.
The returners include two seniors (

Jamie Williams), two juniors (
Naheria Hamilton,
DJ Williams) and seven sophomores (
Janae Camp,
Alise Davis,
Tiarra Davis,
Kiara Norman,
Isiuwa Oghagbon,
Mery Visone and
Kaylin West).
Newcomers
Coastal welcomes three newcomers to the 2018-19 team.
Torrie Cash and
Caitlin Roche join the Chants as junior transfers, while
Aja Blount comes in a team's lone freshman.
Chants in the Preseason Poll
Coastal was voted eighth in the Sun Belt's annual preseason polling of the league's head coaches. It is the Chants' highest finish in the preseason poll since joining the conference. Coastal placed 11th of 12 teams in each of the previous two years.
The head coaches also voted
Naheria Hamilton as the preseason all-conference member. Hamilton was top-10 in the conference in blocks and rebounds last year, and the 6-4 center led Coastal in field goal percentage while finishing third on the team in scoring.
