Sun Belt Championships Results

Birmingham, Ala. - The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team sits in sixth place, with 18 points, at the end of day one of the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships, at the Birmingham CrossPlex Monday.

In the track events, Lisha van Onselen started the scoring getting eight points with a second place finish in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 9:57.06.

Hesmarie Coetzee finished in 11th in the 400m dash with a time of 57.08 to just miss qualifying for the finals on Tuesday. Tiffany Harris and Kiana Robinson followed in 15th and 24th with times of 57.67 and 1:00.45 respectively.

In the 60m dash, Karissa Lunn and Anacia Hines finished with identical times of 7.72 to finish 13th and 14th, followed by Jonnay Anthony in 25th with 7.85.

A tenth of a second separated five runners in the 60m hurdles for the eighth spot in the finals, Hines time of 8.80 tied her for ninth to just miss the finals.

Harris and Coetzee both just missed the finals in the 200m finishing 10th and 15th respectively with 25.14 and 25.26.

The distance medley relay team of van Onselen, Anthony, Alyssa LeClaire and Aynslee van Graan finished the scoring with a first-place finish and setting a Chanticleer record with the time of 11:51.28.

In the field events, Samantha Layko threw a distance of 16.08m (52' 6") to finish in 15th in the weight throw, Alexis Ross, competing in her first conference championships, threw 14.23m (46' 8.25") good enough for 23rd.

Kelsey Briggs and Carina Frey finished 15th and 16th in the long jump with their leaps of 5.36m (17' 7") and 5.35m (17' 6.75") respectively.

Joya Blackwell, making her first appearance in the conference championships, cleared a height of 1.61m (5' 3.25") to place 14th in the high jump.

The final day of competition of the Sun Belt Championships will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20.
