March 17, 2018

Game 1 Stats | Game 2 Stats

SAN MARCOS, TX - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers dropped a pair of conference games on Saturday to the Texas State Bobcats and fell to 14-13 on the season. Kaitlin Beasley-Polko was outdueled by one of the top pitchers in the Sun Belt Conference, Randi Rupp. In game one as the freshman dropped the decision in extra innings by the score of 1-0.

Game 1

Brianna Sanem led off the bottom of the eighth inning as she doubled down the right field line and then the next batter, Hailey McKay attempted to put down a sacrifice but the Coastal defense was not able to make the play at first base resulting in a base hit. Coastal decided to intentionally walk the next batter, Ariel Ortiz, to load the bases to give them force outs at each base. Tara Oltmann worked the count to 3-2 and then walked on the next pitch for the winning score.

Earlier in the game, junior Natalie David gave the Chanticleers their best chance to score in the top of the sixth as she doubled off the Bobcat starter Randi Rupp. After a pinch runner Payton Hanson entered the game, the Chanticleers weren't able to capitalize with their lone runner in scoring position.

Randi Rupp picked up her 13th win of the season as she threw eight innings, allowing no runs as she struck out 13 Coastal batters.

Beasley-Polko took the loss dropping her to 6-7 on the season as she tossed seven innings while allowing just the run one run.

Game 2

In game two, the Chanticleers jumped out early with a 3-0 lead as Coastal Carolina scored their first three batters of the game. Senior Kailey Mellen led off with a walk and then freshman Dean came through with her sixth homer of the season. The very next batter, sophomore Kassidy Smith hammered a pitch over the left field fence.

The Bobcats answered with a run over the next two innings and took the lead over Coastal in the bottom of the third as Chant starter, Ashley Guillette gave up five runs in the inning as Kourtney Pock doubled in Oltmann and Haliegh Davis. Two batters later, Sanem doubled in two more to give Texas State the 7-3 lead.

Coastal picked up one more run in the top of the sixth as Dean added her second hit of the game with a single left and then came around to score when David picked up a run batted in with a single up the middle.

Rupp came back in game two in the bottom of the seventh to pick the save for her first of the year.

The Chanticleers and the Bobcats finish up the weekend with a single game on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. eastern (12 noon central).
