Final Stats

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team began its 2018 season with a pair of losses on Wednesday, falling in both halves of a doubleheader at UNC Wilmington.

The Seahawks won both matches 5-0, giving the Chants an 0-2 start to the season.

UNCW dropped just one set in the opening match. The Seahawks opened the scoring on the fifth court, where Kalin Eske and Aristea Tontai fell to Courtney Mullinax and Jaime Thomas. UNCW's fourth and second pairing captured the next points, sealing the victory for the home side. The Chants' lone set win of the match came on the third court, where Kinga Windisch and Tanner Gauthier split the first two sets with Sara Kelly and Raquel Rooney before falling 15-10 in the third.

Both teams' pairings remained the same for the second match, though their order was slightly changed. Tontai and Eske shifted up to the fourth court for Coastal, while Autumn Otto and Kyla Manning took the fifth. UNCW's third and fourth pairs traded spots for second match.

Once again UNCW took the fifth and fourth courts to begin the match. The Seahawks clinched the match at No. 1, and finished off the contest by winning the No. 3 and No. 2 points. Coastal's second pairing of Aleksandra Djuric and Shelby Ladewig took their match to a third set, which ended with extra points.

Following their season-opening matches the Chants jump right into ASUN Conference play with four matches at Mercer March 30-31. Coastal will not face the host institution, however, instead playing a pair of matches each against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
