Chants Secure Four First Place Finishes At Mountaineer Open

Boone, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina's men's and women's track and field competed in the Mountaineer Open in Boone, North Carolina on Friday and Saturday as they saw various individuals secure top finishes in their respective events.

In the men's field events, the day was highlighted by sophomore Erik Eckleben took home a first-place finish in the long jump with 7.39 distance. Also in the men's long jump Marquez Moore in his first action of the season placed in the top five with a fifth-place finish with a leap of 6.88 meters.

Christian Johnson had his second best distance of the season of 12.68 meters in the triple jump to place fifth overall.

In the shot put, senior Zach Bolton picked up his seventh top ten finish of the season as threw the shot put 16.56 meters.

Junior Kieran Moore also placed second in the hammer and his fifth top-five finish of the season as he threw 52.59 meters.

In the other throwing portion of the day, freshman Michael Peppin landed his best throw of the season for a distance of 40.26 meters and seventh overall in the event.

In men's track events, Coastal's 4x100 team of D'Andre Fletcher, Therius Styles, Jerome Coaxum Jr. and Kahlim Denmark took home a second place finish and a time of 41.02.

In the other men's relay event on the day, the foursome of Dee Jennings, Malcolm Simmons, Coaxum, Tydarius Floyd were the top finishers in the 4x400 relay with a time 3:20.08.

Jennings also ran in the 400 meters on the afternoon and placed second with a time of 55.23.

Denmark and Styles were two and three at the end of the day in the 100 meters as Denmark took second with a time of 10.42 and Styles finished right behind in third with a time of 10.51.

In the men's 200 meters, Coastal had four individuals in the top 10. Denmark was the top finisher of 20.97 which is a personal best for the senior. Styles placed third in the event with a time of 21.11 and in third Coaxum whom competed in the event the first time this season finished with a time of 21.63. Senior Ryan McCain rounded out the top 10 with a tenth place finish and a time of 22.49.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Jennings and Coaxum took top-five finishes in the event. The junior Jennings placed second with a time of 14.28 and the senior Coaxum finished with at 14.60 for a third-place standing.

In mid-distance running events, the pair of freshman Andrew Southard and Christian Hannon brought top 10 finishes in the 800 meters. Southard finished with personal best 1:55.91 and a third-place result and Hannon came in sixth with a personal best time of 1:59.72.

Freshman Adriaan Wildschutt finished second in the 1500 meters as he finished with a time of 3:54.38 in his first time competing in the event this season.

For the women in the field events, the 4x100 team of Anacia Hines, Karissa Lunn, Jonnay Anthony and Eleni Frommann finished first in the event with a time of 45.53 which is two-hundredths of a second off their fast time of the season in the event. Also,Anthony, Frommann, Erica Evans and Kiana Robinson competed in the 4x400 and finished with a Coastal season-best time of 3:53.79.

Individually all three of the aforementioned Chants competed in the 100 meters and each took home a took top ten finish. Frommann ran the fastest of the bunch at 11.63 which is good for her second fastest time of the season. In second place was Frey who finished with a personal best of 11.86. Hines finished in third with a time of 12:02 and Lunn rounded out the top five with a time of 12.22

In the 200 meters, the senior Frey, took home a second place finish with her second best time of the season of 24.65. Junior Kiana Robinson finished seventh in the event with a time of 25.76.

Robinson broke a personal best time in the 400 meters as she finished third with a time 1:00.00.

Hines came back later in the day in the 100 hurdle event as she finished in second with her second best time of the season of 13.94. Freshman Erica Evans tied her best time of the season of 14.56 for a third-place finish.

Evans placed in the top ten of the shot put with her second best throw of the season of 9.57 meters for eighth place.

Sophomore Alyssa LeClaire took home a first-place in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2;11.52. and freshman Mya Ray finished in ninth with a time of 2:27.54.

Teammates senior Aynslee van Graan and Kayla Tracy secured top ten finishes in the 1500 meters. Van Graan finished in second and a time of 4:29.79. This was the senior second consecutive top-two finish in the event. Tracy rounded out the top ten with a time of 5:07.53.

In the 5000 distance event, sophomore Lisha van Onselen, finished first in the event with a time 18:21.58.

Coastal Carolina returns back to the track at the Sun Belt Belt Championships as they travel to the San Marcos, Texas with action starting on May 11 and continuing through May 13.
