Men's Soccer Falls to Maryland

Box Score (pdf)

Coastal Carolina men's soccer team fell to Big 10-member Maryland and in rematch of two teams that met last season, but this time with different results.

After defeating the Terrapins last season in College Park, the Terps returned the favor this year in the 3-1 win in Conway. The two teams went into halftime without scoring, and went into the 53rd minute before the visitors got on the scoreboard on a William James Herve goal.

The Maryland lead lasted 30 seconds as CCU's Jeranimo Power took a pass from Saif AlHameli and found the back of the Maryland net to even the score.

The visitors, who outshot CCU 19-8, continued to keep the pressure on the Chants defense and broke through twice in a two minute span for the final score. Justin Gielen and Sebastian Elney each scored late as the Terps won the battle of the two powers.

Chris Dattalo played all 90 minutes in goal for CCU and had a career-high eight saves in the match. Yazeed Matthews and Tsiki Ntsabeleng each had two shots to lead CCU's offensive push.

CCU will be back on the pitch Saturday, Oct. 6 when they play host to USC Upstate. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
