NEW ORLEANS – After posting back-to-back shutouts, Coastal Carolina's Chris Dattalo has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Over the past weekend, Coastal traveled to Birmingham, Ala., to face Memphis and UAB in the UAB Soccer for a Cure Classic. In the Chants opening game Dattalo picked up a save in CCU's 2-0 win over Memphis and picked up four saves in the Chants 1-0 nail-biter over host UAB.
Â
The two shutouts were the first shutouts for Dattalo in a CCU uniform. He now has 10 saves over CCU's 3-1 start and has a .667 save percentage.
Â
The two wins has given CCU three consecutive on the season after a season-opening loss to nationally-ranked UCLA. With the consecutive wins, the Chanticleers have jumped back into the national polls and are ranked 19th in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.
Â
Dattalo and the Chants will have this week off before hosting two matches next week. Tuesday Sept. 11, Radford comes to Conway for a 7 p.m. start, and on Sunday Sept. 16, George Mason and CCU will square off in a 3 p.m. match.
