
Men’s Golf Shoots Second-Straight 282 at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

Coastal Carolina men’s golf had three players shoot a sub-par round on Saturday
Jonesborough, Tenn. – Coastal Carolina men's golf carded a second-straight 282, -6 under par, team score on day two of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate which was once again highlighted by three Chanticleers that shot under par on Saturday at the Blackthorn Club at the Ridges in Jonesborough, Tenn.
CCU's second-round 282 is tied for the lowest team round of the season for the Chants to date and places the men in teal in a tie for seventh-place overall with NC State at 564, -12 under par, heading into the final round of play on Sunday.
Host East Tennessee State shot -19 under par on Saturday as a team to climb five spots in take the tournament lead at 550, -26 under par.
No. 16 Tennessee (552, -24), No. 12 Louisville (554, -22), Ole Miss (558, -18) and UNCW (560, -16) round out the top five after two days of play.
"Another frustrating end to the round today. We have to get better at closing off rounds if we are going to compete for the tournament wins," remarked head coach Jim Garren. "The guys are playing well but we just need to have a complete group effort tomorrow."
After a first-round 69, -3 under par, on Friday, senior Zack Taylor posted another round of 69 on Saturday to move up and into a tie for eighth overall with his 36-hole score of 138, -6 under par. The Chant senior posted an eagle on the par-5 hole No. 4 to go along with four birdies and 10 pars on the day to put himself in contention going into the final round of play on Sunday.
Joining Zack Taylor under par for the second-straight day was senior States Fort who carded a second-round score of 71, -1 under par. Fort's 71 on Saturday followed his 70, -2 under par, round on Friday to place him in a tie for 26th overall with a 36-hole score of 141, -3 under par. He tallied three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars over his second round of play.
Seth Taylor posted a round of 72, even par, on Saturday to end the day tied for 35th overall with his two-round combined score of 143, -1 under par. The freshman, who turned in a 71, -1 under par, on day one, carded a 36, even par, on both the front and back nines on Saturday, highlighted by three birdies and 12 pars on the day.
Fellow freshman Gavin Noble registered his lowest round as a Chant on Saturday with his round of 70, -2 under par. Combined with his first-round 73, +1, the first-year CCU golfer is tied for 35th overall with his two-round combined score of 143, -1 under par. His round on Saturday consisted of three birdies, 14 pars, and just one bogey, which came on the final hole of the day, the par-4 No. 18.
Rounding out the Coastal lineup on Saturday was Brady Hinkle with a 74, +2. The sophomore, who posted a first round 72, even par, will enter Sunday's final round of play in a tie for 49th overall with his 36-hole score of 146, +2. Hinkle was one-under on the front nine with two birdies and a bogey, and after seven-straight pars to start the back nine he went a combined three-over on the final two holes of the round.
Playing as an individual, Connor Newton posted a second-round 78, +6, on Saturday to enter the final round on Sunday with a 36-hole score of 152, +10, and in 77th-place overall.
The final round of play is scheduled to start on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
