CONWAY – For the third time in the four years since Coastal Carolina has been a member of the Sun Belt, the Chanticleers will make an appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Championship game, and for the fourth time in as many years, the Chants will have to play Georgia State in the Sun Belt Tournament.
 
The title tilt will be played at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex on the campus of Appalachian State University and is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
 
In 2016, CCU's inaugural Sun Belt season, the Chants and Panthers met in the title game with CCU defeating Georgia State 1-0. Just a year later in 2017, the same two teams again mixed it up for the tournament championship, and once again CCU came away with the win (2-0) and championship.
 
Last season the two teams met again in the SBC tournament, but this time it was in a semifinal match. Georgia State was able to score late and pull out the 2-1 victory on its way to the tournament title.
 
CCU (9-7-2) goes into Sunday's championship match playing its' best soccer of the season. While the Chants are playing without five starters, they have managed to go 5-1 in their final six matches.
 
Georgia State (12-4-3) has played their way into the title match despite entering the tournament as the fifth seed. They have not given up a goal in their two tournament wins. They opened play with a 4-0 win over Georgia Southern and then defeated top-seeded Central Arkansas 1-0 Their 12 overall wins are the most wins for any school in the Sun Belt.
 
When the two teams met back during the regular season, Georgia State was able to come into Conway and escape with a 1-0 win despite the Chants outshooting the Panthers 13-5. In the overall series CCU holds a 10-5 lead in the series, but Georgia State has won the last three meetings.
