Chants Ready for Saint Mary’s Invitational on Nov. 4-6

Conway, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team will wrap up its 2019 fall season in "The Golden State", as the Chanticleers will take part in the Saint Mary's Invitational on Nov. 4-6 at the prestigious Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.
The three-day tournament will play par-71, 7,002-yards and will tee-off each day at 7:30 a.m. PT/10:30 a.m. ET.
A total of 16 teams and 100 individuals will make up the tournament field this year highlighted by five top-25 nationally ranked programs in No. 6 BYU, No. 14 Arizona, No. 17 Oregon State, and No. 20 Colorado State. Other teams include No. 36 San Diego State, No. 52 Utah, No. 56 New Mexico, No. 60 San Francisco, No. 64 Saint Mary's (Calif.), No. 66 Santa Clara, and No. 80 Coastal Carolina, as well as Oregon, Toledo, Fresno State, UNC Wilmington and Pacific (Golfstat rankings).
"Our guys are excited to get going at Poppy Hills. It's a championship-style golf course with a championship quality field," stated head coach Jim Garren. "It's a long way for us to travel but fortunately we go out here a couple of days early so the guys have had time to adjust to the time change and west coast grasses. We are ready to get going on Monday."
For the final event of the fall season, the Chanticleers will send out a lineup of Zack Taylor, Brady Hinkle, States Fort, Seth Taylor, and Gavin Noble, while Tyler Gray will compete as an individual.
Playing in the top spot for the Chants all season long, Taylor has turned in three top-20 finishes, including a sixth-place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Sept. 27-28. Taylor, who has carded seven rounds of par or better over his nine rounds of play this fall season, leads the team with a 70.56 stroke average over CCU's three fall events. Ranked 77th overall in the latest Golfstat rankings, the senior is coming off rounds of 69, 69, and 73 and a 54-hole tournament score of 211, -5 under par, last time out at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate three weeks ago.
Playing in the No. 2 position for the second-straight event, Hinkle will look to close out the fall season on a high note after recording the best 54-hole tournament score of his CCU career last time out in Tennessee. The sophomore carded rounds of 72, 74 and 70 to finish in a tie for 39th-place overall with a three-round combined score of 216, even par. His final round 70, even par, was the lowest in his young Coastal career.
Coming off his best tournament of the fall season last time out at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Fort will be No. 3 in the lineup this week. The lone four-year senior on the team posted rounds of 70, 71, and 68 to register a top-10 finish with a 54-hole score of 209, -7 under par, three weeks ago. The Georgia native is second on the team with six rounds of par or better and has logged a stroke average of 72.33 thus far this fall season.
Seth Taylor will once again be in the lineup for the Chants this week, as the freshman has competed for coach Garren's squad in each of the previous three fall tournaments. The first-year Chant has carded four rounds of par or better thus far this season, including a low-round 68 in the final round of the 2019 Badger Invitational in early September. Like fellow teammates Fort and Hinkle, Taylor is coming off his best 54-hole tournament performance as a Chant with his tournament score of 214, -2 under par, at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
Noble will be teeing off in his third-straight event for the Chanticleers at the Saint Mary's Invitational, first breaking into the lineup at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Sept. 27-28. The CCU freshman shot a 216, even par, over his 54 holes of play at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate which included a low-round 70, -2 under par, over the second round of play.
Making his season debut, Gray will compete as an individual at the three-day event. The sophomore, who captured the individual title at the 88th annual South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) Amateur Championship back in August, played in two events last season for the Chanticleers as a true freshman and posted a stroke average of 76.67 over six rounds of play.
