Men’s Golf Concludes Fall Slate at Saint Mary’s Invitational

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will return to action on Feb. 15-16

Pebble Beach, Calif. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team wrapped up its 2019 fall slate on Wednesday, placing in a tie for ninth-place overall with a 54-hole team score of 864, +12, at the Saint Mary's Invitational held at the Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.

The Chanticleers carded a third-round 295, +11, to place in a tie with San Francisco at 864, +11. Coastal carded rounds of 289 and 280 over the first two rounds of the three-day event.

Winning the event was No. 20 Colorado State with a team-low score of 827, -25, while No. 6 Brigham Young (832, -20), No. 14 Arizona (836, -16), New Mexico (841, -11) and No. 17 Oregon State (852, even par) rounded out the top-five on the team leaderboard.

Freshman Seth Taylor recorded his first career top-10 individual finish as a Chant, placing in a tie for sixth-place overall with rounds of 67, 66 and 76 for a 54-hole score of 209, -4 under par. Taylor's 15 birdies were tied for the tournament lead among all individuals while he also ranked in the top-10 in par-4 (4.00, E) and par-5 (4.42, -7) scoring over the three rounds of play.

Senior States Fort carded his second-straight round of 73, +2, to finish in a tie for 50th-place overall with his 54-hole score of 218, +5, (72, 73, and 73), while freshman Gavin Noble finished one stroke behind Fort and in a tie for 53rd with his tournament score of 219, +6, (74, 69, and 76). Fort finished his tournament with 10 birdies, 30 pars and was second on the team with a par-5 scoring average of 4.50, -6. Noble carded 11 birdies and 26 pars over his 54 holes of play.

Fellow Chant Zack Taylor continued his improvement over the three days of play with a third-round 71, even par, to finish the event in a tie for 60th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 220, +7, (77, 72, and 71). The senior was tied with Seth Taylor for the best par-4 scoring average (4.00, E) on the team and ended his week of competition with nine birdies and 31 pars.

Also saving his best round for last on Wednesday was CCU's Brady Hinkle with a final round 75, +4. The sophomore carded rounds of 76, 77 and 75 to place in a tie for 80th overall with his three-round combined score of 228, +15.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Tyler Gray finished in a tie for 87th-place with rounds of 75, 77 and 80 for a 54-hole score of 232, +19.

The Chanticleers will not return to action until the spring season, as CCU will tee off at the Florida Gators Invitational on Feb. 15-16 in Gainesville, Fla.
