Two Chants in Top-10 After Day One of Florida Gators Invitational

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will return to action tomorrow morning in Florida
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Coastal Carolina senior golfer Zack Taylor posted a pair of rounds in the 60's to lead the Chanticleers to a day one score of 576, +16, at the Florida Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
Taylor is in third-place overall with a two-round score of 137, -3 under par, while sophomore Tyler Gray is in a tie for sixth overall with rounds of 68 and 71 and a 36-hole score of 139, -1 under par.
"It was a solid day overall and we had two guys play great golf in Zack and Tyler," commented head coach Jim Garren. "The wind blew and the greens were firm and fast. It was a great test of golf today. What Florida did in that second round was outstanding. We need a total team effort tomorrow to post a nice finish against this quality field."
As a team, Coastal posted back-to-back rounds of 288, +8, to end the day in a tie for seventh-place overall with No. 29 Liberty at 576, +16 and just six strokes out of third-place.
No. 31 Florida leads the tournament field at 555, -5 under par, while No. 19 Vanderbilt (565, +5) and No. 47 West Virginia (570, +10) are in second and third, respectively.
Zack Taylor totaled eight birdies and 23 pars over his 36 holes of play on Saturday en route to posting rounds of 68, -2 under par, and 69, -1 under par.
Gray totaled four pars and 29 pars on the day, including a bogey-free first round 68, -2 under par.
Behind Zack Taylor and Gray was freshman Seth Taylor with rounds of 76 and 74 for a two-round combined score of 150, +10. The first-year Chant had two birdies and 24 pars over his day of play to place in a tie for 61st-place overall.
Fellow Chants States Fort and Gavin Noble finished the day with identical two-round scores of 151, +11. Fort carded rounds of 76 and 75, while Noble ended Saturday with rounds of 75 and 76 to place in a tie for 67th-place overall.
Coastal will tee-off beginning at 8 a.m. ET tomorrow for the third and final round of play.
