Men’s Golf to Start Spring Slate at Florida Gators Invitational

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will this weekend in Gainesville, Fla.
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina men's golf will tee-off its 2020 spring season this weekend at the 2020 Florida Gators Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes of play on Saturday, Feb. 15, and a final 18-hole round on Sunday, Feb. 16.
The tournament course will play a par 70, 6,701 yards on both days with four of the five top scores from each team counting towards the team score.
This year's tournament field includes Coastal Carolina, host Florida (No. 31/No. 26), Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Liberty (No. 29/No. 34), Mississippi State, Missouri, Penn State, UCF (No. 39/NR), North Florida (No. 26/No. 39), South Florida (No. 36/No. 32), Toledo, Vanderbilt (No. 19/No. 33), West Virginia (No. 47/No. 44), and Wichita State. Last season, the Chants placed ninth overall with a 54-hole team score of 862, +22 (288-289-285).
"We are looking forward to getting back into action this week," stated head coach Jim Garren. "We always enjoy opening the spring up in Gainesville. It is a very good field, on a good golf course."
CCU will send out the lineup of Zack Taylor, Seth Taylor, Gavin Noble, Tyler Gray, and States Fort for the spring opener.
The Chants' top finisher in two of their four tournaments last fall, Zack Taylor posted a stroke average of 71.25 over 12 rounds of play in the fall season, which included three top-20 finishes. He led the way with eight rounds of par or better and posted three rounds in the 60's in four fall events.
Freshman Seth Taylor had a strong fall campaign which was capped off with a sixth-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational in November. The first-year Chant played in all four fall events, posting a stroke average of 72.58 over 12 rounds of play which is the third-best on the team. He also recorded five rounds of par or better, including three rounds in the 60's.
Like Taylor, Noble also finished his first fall season out on a high note with back-to-back 54-hole tournament scores of 216, even par, and 219, +6. Noble, who broke into the lineup in the second tournament of the fall slate, recorded a stroke average of 73.89 over nine rounds of golf, which included a low-round 69, -2 under par, at the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Gray played his way into the lineup over last week's qualifying period. The sophomore played as an individual at the Saint Mary's Invitational in November where he posted rounds of 75, 77, and 80 over the three-day event.
Fort will look to get off to a strong start in his last spring season as a Chant. The senior posted a scoring average of 72.42 over four tournaments in the fall, which included six rounds of par or better and two rounds of 68. He registered two top 25 individual finishes highlighted by a 10th-place showing at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in October.
