CONWAY - On the last day of the Kickin' Chicken, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers improved to 4-1 on the season with a 9-1 victory over the UIC Flames. The CCU offense was 8-for-20 on the day as they had a double, triple, and home run with eight runs batted in. Taylor Sweigart continued her hot hitting on the weekend as the sophomore went 2-for-2, a triple, two runs batted in, and a walk.

In the third, it was the Flames who got on the scoreboard first as Skylee James took a Kaitlin Beasley-Polko offering over the left field fence to give UIC the early 1-0 lead.

That was the last time CCU was behind in the game as the Chants answered with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman Sydney Guess knocked home Kassidy Smith who walked earlier in the inning and then the sophomore Sweigart tripled home Guess and Courtney Dean.

Coastal finished off the Flames in the bottom of the fifth as they scored six runs. The first three batters of the inning reached base safely. Freshman Mackenzie Beyer hit a weak ground ball down the third base line that got under the glove of third baseman of the aforementioned James, allowing Guess and Dean to score. The Chants added one more before freshman Adrienne Visintine added a walk-off two-run home run over the left field fence.

Senior pitcher Ashley Guillette came in relief for the Chants to pick up the win as she went the final two innings, pitching scoreless softball.

Coastal Carolina will be in action again on Wednesday as they travel to Charleston Southern for a mid-week game against their former Big South foe. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
